On Thursday Nov. 16, 2017 a group of Door County citizens traveled three hours from as far away as Gills Rock to Representative Mike Gallagher’s Green Bay Office to express their disagreement with the Republican tax reform proposal voted on by Congress that day. Sponsored by Indivisible Door County, the group brought Representative Gallagher a pie as part of their “Piece of the Pie” tax reform demonstration. The pie was decorated to show that virtually 2/3 of the beneficiaries of tax reform voted on by congress, will be the wealthiest tax payers in the country while the balance will be “the rest of us”. Spokesperson Judy Brodd, Sister Bay, said “We are here to show our disapproval of the Republican tax plan which we believe will result in an increase in taxes for 300,000 Wisconsin residents.” She added ” We believe this tax plan will primarily benefit the wealthiest Americans and large corporations at the expense of those least able to pay” When asked by a reporter what Wisconsin can do about that, Brodd said ” We all need to constantly contact our members of congress tell them what we think and ask them why they are voting against the financial security of their own constituents.”
